Again, just posting these so I don't lose them and so I can start over.
2/8/2012
Nate: "Sheesh, Boston! You're going to eat me out of house and home."
Boston: (smirking)"I'm going to put Daddy in a home."
2/7/2012 - I was getting Boston ready for preschool and making sure he had shorts on under his pants, because they were going to be painting pictures using their toes.
Me: "Boston - are you excited to paint with your toes at preschool today."
Nate: (trying to be polite, but clearly unnerved) "... they're painting their toes today, huh? The boys too? Isn't that a little... weird... for boys? Who's this teacher...?"
2/6/2012
Me: "Did you have fun at Calvin's house?"
Boston: "Yeah! We had to go poopy at the SAME TIME! I went upstairs, and Calvin went downstairs, and.... What so funny?"
Boston: "Yeah! We had to go poopy at the SAME TIME! I went upstairs, and Calvin went downstairs, and.... What so funny?"
1/31/2012
Boston: "Wanna plan Seany-poo's game with me, mom?" (Mario Bros on the Wii)
Me: "Naw, not now bud. I feel like a loser if I play video games at 9 am."
Boston: (in his best convincing voice) "We could play the Yoshi level... Yoshi loves you..."
1/28/2012 - Boston came bounding over to me excitedly holding his tater tot carton.
Boston: "Look mom! I'm saving my last tot for Jess... uh-oh. Where did it go?"
He finds the tot that had presumably fallen out during his bounding, picks it up, blows it off, and asks, "Is it grossy now?"
Me: "No, I'm sure it's fine."
Boston: "Good. I'm saving it for Jessica. She coming home today?"
Me: "Tomorrow."
Boston: "Good. I'm saving it for Jessica. She coming home today?"
Me: "Tomorrow."
Boston: "Ok. I save it for her."
1/16/2012 - Nate was helping Boston take a bath. Boston got fully undressed while Nate ran the water. When Boston hopped into the tub and sat down, he said: "[Gasp!] I forgot to take off my cape!" and proceeded to unlatch the imaginary cape from around his neck and hand it to Nate to hang up.
1/15/2012 - We were talking about what Boston might want to do for a living when he grows up and I was listing things off: "You could be a doctor, like Dr. Paxton (his pediatrician who he loooves). Or you could be a fireman. Or you could be a pilot and fly the planes."
Boston: "I wanna be a pirate!"
Boston: "I wanna be a pirate!"
Me: "You mean a pilot?"
Boston: "No. A pirate."
Boston: "No. A pirate."
1/13/2012 - For dinner I went and picked up a kid's meal for Boston. Pertinent background information: I'm always calling him a sweet boy when he does nice things.
Boston: (rummaging through the bag) "Chicken!? French Fries! And a TOY!?!? You a fweet (sweet) girl, Mom!"
1/11/2012 - Pertinent background information: Boston calls Lily "Babes" and we are NOT pregnant or trying to get that way.
Nate: "Boston, do you think we should have another baby?"
Boston: (thinking a new baby and Lily would be mutually exclusive) "Mmmm... naw, I like Babes the best."
Boston: (thinking a new baby and Lily would be mutually exclusive) "Mmmm... naw, I like Babes the best."
1/11/2012 - I was making cinnamon toasts for Boston for breakfast.
Me: "Alright, Cinnamon Toast Man, how many do you want?"
Boston: "I'm not Cinnamon Toast Man, I'm a Hero!"
Me: "Ok, Cinnamon Hero, how many?"
Boston: "I'm not Cinnamon Toast Man, I'm a Hero!"
Me: "Ok, Cinnamon Hero, how many?"
Boston: "No, not Cinnamon Hero..."
Me: "Just plain Hero?"
Boston: "Not plain - Look what I can do! Fly!" (and he punched the air with both fists and showed me his flying abilities)
1/10/2012 - We implemented a "Cry Corner" - it's a place for Boston to go throw his fits :) It's an upside-down bucket in the corner of our laundry room. I sent him to the Cry Corner when he was throwing a fit yesterday and soon heard a bucket go flying and Boston screamed, "I hate the Cry Corner! I kicked the bucket!"
1/3/2012 - Boston had a scratchy voice when he woke up this morning.
Boston: "That a weird sound in my mouth... is it Spanish?"
1/2/2012 - "Coffee is bad for you. It make you 'mall (small, and he held up his finger and thumb close together to show me how small)."
1/1/2012 - We stopped at my parents' house on the way back from visiting Nate's parents. When we were headed back home Boston said, "Two grandma's houses... That was busy for me!"
12/31/2011
Me: "Boston, how about you come upstairs with me while I vacuum."
Boston: "Just a minute. One song for you I give. Sit wight there."
I was then serenaded with a rendition of "Book of Mormon Stories" that included both singing and drumming on Lily's snack puffs tin.
12/15/2011 - We were having an oh-so-healthy dinner at Wendy's and Boston needed to go to the bathroom (he lovespublic restrooms - never misses a chance to check one out). While he was in there waiting, Nate grabbed some toilet paper and blew his nose with it.
Boston: (repulsed) "Gross, Dad! We use that to wipe our butts!" (Boston included a backside-wiping gesture to make sure Dad knew what he was talking about, and how fully disgusting it was.)
11/22/2011
Boston: (holding up his camera) "Mommy, say "Cheese!""
Boston: (holding up his camera) "Mommy, say "Cheese!""
Me: "Cheese!"
Boston: (takes the picture, inspects it, isn't impressed) "You didn't say cheese. You said "bloop, blep, bloo"."
Boston: (takes the picture, inspects it, isn't impressed) "You didn't say cheese. You said "bloop, blep, bloo"."
11/18/2011 - Boston asked me to play him a song on the piano.
Me: "Which one do you want?"
Boston: "The one where I kissing baby Lily."
Boston: "The one where I kissing baby Lily."
Me: Singing "I'm Trying to be Like Jesus" to him. (There's a picture on this one with a little boy giving a little crying girl a kiss to make her feel better.) "... for these are the things Jesus taught."
Boston: (Shocked) "Tot! Tater Tot? He eating?!"
11/16/2011 - Nate was playing Mario Kart and went the wrong way for a minute.
Boston: "What was that, dad?"
11/15/2011 - Boston wanted a breadstick for breakfast... the one from dinner the night before that he'd left out on the table.
Boston: (takes a bite... munch, munch, munch. Goes to take another bite and says:) "This bread-tick tastes like butt."
11/9/2011
Nate: "What's this letter?"
Boston: "Um... D?"
Boston: "Um... D?"
Nate: "Come on, buddy. You know this one. It's B. Now, what's this letter?"
Boston: (Sadly) "B."
Boston: (Sadly) "B."
Nate: "Good job! Why are you sad?"
Boston: "Wew (well), I don't want to use my brain."
Boston: "Wew (well), I don't want to use my brain."
11/7/2011 - Nate was cutting onions for dinner and it was making his eyes water.
Boston: "Daddy, you crying?"
Nate: "Yeah, these onions are making me cry."
Boston: (disappears upstairs and comes back down with his blanket) "You crying, you need a nap. You go to bed. I will lay with you for a minute."
11/2/2011
Me: (yelling at my computer) "Ugh! North Carolina is killingme!"
Boston: (comes into my office, crying) "I don't want you to die, Mom! I love you."
There were real tears. I felt so bad. No more using figures of speech when he's around.
10/30/2011 - Boston was picking the last remaining tomatoes
from our garden. He brought me a handful.
Boston: "These for you, mom!"
Me: "Thanks bud!"
Boston: "You eat them, you get big!" (Nate always tells him this)
Me: "I'm already big!"
Boston: "You not big enough."
...then he picked me another one.
10/27/2011 - Nate bought our Halloween candy and Boston spotted it.
Boston: "What's that candy, Dad?"
Nate: "That's for Halloween."
Pause
Boston: "Oooh! I get it! Grandma gived it to us!"
10/19/2011
Nate: "Ok, we're going to learn a new one today. This letter is called Q. Q for Queen."
Nate: "Ok, we're going to learn a new one today. This letter is called Q. Q for Queen."
Boston: "Ok. Q for Queen. (singing) Rah, Rah Rasputin, la-la-la-la Russian Queen! "
10/18/2011 - Nate and I had been having a semi-heated discussion that ended with me saying, "... is THAT what you're saying?!" Boston could tell daddy was in trouble, and said, "That's not what I'm saying Mom! See?" and he opened his mouth wide so that I could see the lack of the offending words in there.
10/12/2011
Boston: "Dad - Ness what (Guess what). We not have breakfast (we're out of cereal). We can have pancakes instead!"
10/8/2011
Boston: "Mom?"
Me: "Yes, Boston?"
Boston: (all in one breath) "I'm hungry, I'm starving, I want pasgetti, you say "Course Boston, sure Boston, you can have some pasgetti, I make it for you," say that, Mom."
10/7/2011
Boston: "Look, Mom! (pointing to Halloween lights) It's Hallaweeno (pronounced like Jalapeno, but with a "w" instead of a "p")!"
10/5/2011 - I heard Boston bumping around upstairs this morning, thus knew he was awake, then was perplexed about why he didn't come downstairs. I went up to investigate and found him next to Lily's crib (she was still asleep in it) with a concerned look on his face. When he saw me, he said, "You just forgot your baby, mom!"
9/21/2011 - I noticed Boston was congested this morning when he woke up.
Me: "Uh-oh, have you got some boogies today?"
Boston: "Yeah. I blow them out. They flying everywhere. On the window (pointing), on the desk (pointing), on the thing (sweeping hand motion indicating everywhere)..."
No fear - the window and the desk were clean. Just a little harmless exaggeration.
9/19/2011 - Boston was inspecting the lid of his lemonade when he found a recycling symbol and excitedly exclaimed, "Look mom! In-cycling! Make lemonade into new boxes!"
9/11/2011 - Boston insisted on using his own hymn book today at church, and during the sacrament hymn I looked over to see him pointing at the words and singing, "Beeee Yoooou Footbaaaaall!" (he always forgets the "Y", but the intent was clear, albeit slightly sacriligious)
9/9/2011 - Boston was circling Lily on his tricycle (she was in her carseat carrier) when suddenly he stopped, jumped off his bike, and said, "[Gasp!] A bad guy is taking baby sister's toy! Stay here, little bike. I go hit the bad guy!" Then he brandished his sword and used it to shoot the bad guy.
9/7/2011 - Nate has been trying to teach Boston his letters. During their pre-pre-school session today, Nate said, "I need a beer." Then afterward he amended his statement, "Nope, drugs. I need drugs."
9/7/2011 - Boston stubbed his toe and said, "Oh no! Cwap! I hit my toe!"
9/3/2011 - We've been teaching Boston his letters using flashcards. Today some of his flashcards got left on the floor, and he picked them up and said, "I'm going to go mail these letters."
8/8/2011 - Pertinent background information: last time Nate made us bratwurst on the grill, they burned.... badly.
Me: "So you're going to start cooking those brats at 5:30ish?"
Nate: "Yes, and this time I'll watch them like a hawk. Can you make the chip dip? Because I'll be hawkin' the brats."
8/1/2011 - We were at Lava Hot Springs, Nate and I taking turns watching Boston while the other one went down the slides. I came back from sliding and Nate brought Boston over to me.
Boston: "You going to pawn me off a mommy?"
7/29/2011
Me: "Guess what! We're going swimming tonight!"
Boston: "Oh, I'm so 'cited!" (excited)
7/22/2011
Boston: (pointing at the Choco Taco Dave was eating) "That's a peanuts."
Dave: "What?!?"
Me: "Yes, you're right - those are peanuts."
7/19/2011 - During a road construction stop...
Boston: "Why we stopping?"
Me: (pointing at the stereotypical road construction guy - mustache, huge shades, pot belly... ) "Because that guy is telling us to stop."
A minute later...
Boston: "Why we going?"
Me: "Well, he told us we could go now."
Boston: "He's a nice boy. I want to hug him."
Me: (laughing) "You want to hug the construction guy?"
Boston: "Pleeeeeeease!?"
7/13/2011
Boston: (to Lily's doll) "I'm handsome. Kiss me."
7/13/2011 - Boston was wiggling around in a tell-tale manner.
Nate: "Boston, do you need to go potty?"
Boston: "No thanks. I'm full."
7/3/2011
Boston: "Draw something."
Kyle: "What should I draw?"
Boston: "Umm... Shaun the Sheep!"
Kyle draws
Boston (laughing): "That's not Shaun the Sheep!"
Kyle: "Yes it is!"
Boston: "No... it's a chicken!"
