Faulty Fire Alarms?

Last night our fire alarms woke us up. And we have no idea why. It was quite the adrenaline rush, to be awakened in the middle of the night by all of our fire alarms going, only to inspect the situation to find that nothing was wrong, other than the blaring alarms. They wouldn't turn off using the "Push to Silence" buttons, and removing the battery didn't work either. We finally had to unplug them all from the ceiling, one by one. It was really bizarre. They were installed in 2007, so I don't think they're too old. They've gone off occasionally during a thunderstorm, but they'll always stop after a few beeps. Last night they went for 5 or 10 minutes until we could get them all unplugged. Does anyone know why they'd do that? If you have any ideas (or a friend who's a Fire Alarm Specialist, assuming those exist), please let us know.

Hmmm...Brett has experience with fire alarms. I'll try to remember to ask him at dinner tonight.

Did it wake up Boston? I remember ours going off once when Trinity was sleeping and it didn't wake her, she was only like a week or so old, I was afraid she was dead!

I had a co-worker who mentioned pretty much the same experience, never did hear what the cause and final solution were, I'll have to ask.
